2013 Subaru WRX STI Review
After its recently revealed "Motion V" program was announced late last year, Subaru bosses arranged a special briefing for potential investors. At that meeting, senior staffers laid out a road map of what models and new technologies would be unveiled up to 2015.
Of note on the technology side is a new direct injection turbocharged engine slated for introduction by the end of this year. And thats just part of Subarus powertrain plans.
Aside from a name change, the 2013 Subaru WRX will get an all-new platform to call home, along with a new engine underhood. Subaru is dropping "Impreza" from the WRX nameplate, but will continue building the car from the Impreza platform. Subaru wants to distinguish the Impreza as its mainstream small car offering while highlighting the WRXs gravel-spitting, rally-racing heritage. As such, the new WRX will likely ride on a slightly shorter wheelbase and use lighter-weight suspension components and unique suspension geometry for enhanced performance handling.
The 2013 WRX will use a new turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder engine that, while a half-liter smaller, will make more power than the engine in the current model. Aided by direct injection, the new four-cylinder should make close to 270 horsepower and, coupled with the new WRXs expected weight loss, help achieve better fuel economy than the current models 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway. Expect a six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive to come standard.
This is likely to be related to the existence of a powerful and highly efficient new 1.6-litre unit that will debut at Geneva next month and is set to replace the well-regarded 2.2-litre diesel used on several European-market Hondas.
Mr Senior said he expected Impreza volume to remain steady despite the arrival of the fourth-generation model.
This is largely due to pressure on the factory, which is operating at 100 per cent capacity and working hard to satisfy exceptionally high demand for the new XV, more than 650 of which were sold locally in the two weeks immediately following its launch last month.

Now, the 2015 Subaru WRX has been fully revealed at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show, and things look promising for the successor to the famed rally special. Auto Show Floor Update: Yeah, yeah, the new 2015 WRX may have an optional CVT, but with a minor power bump, new six-speed manual, and handling lessons learned from the BRZ, the new WRX promises to be better than ever.
Subaru borrowed the turbocharged, direct-injected 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder from the Forester XT, and employs a high 10.6:1 compression ratio, twin-scroll turbocharger, and the Subaru Dual Active Valve Control System. The engine gets different camshafts and higher-rate valve springs, among other upgrades unique to the WRX, to bring output to 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, which peaks between 2000 and 5200 rpm. 2012 Subaru BRZ News Car Concept
Subaru BRZ appeared as a sports car with rear-wheel-Horizontally-Opposed Boxer engine. Car Subaru and Toyota collaboration results claimed to be ready to be a sports sedan that has perfection on the wheel and driving pleasure, Many have been holding onto hope of a local launch since the BRZs existence was first rumoured a few years ago, but few would have expected the brands Australian arm to ease up on its all-wheel-drive-only position.
The joint development programme with Toyota Motor Corporation allowed Toyota’s ‘D-4S’ direct injection and port injection technology to be incorporated into the BRZ’s power unit, improving efficiency. The powerplant achieves a maximum output of 200PS and 151lb/ft torque.
The Subaru BRZ engines will be produced at the company’s Oizumi engine plant (where all Subaru engines are built) which is located at the Gunma Main Plant, where the BRZ and all Toyota/Scion variants are being produced. No details were released regarding turbo size, engine output, or future applications for the new powerplant (or which markets will receive it), but we’d have to think the BRZ would be on that list.
The 6-star badge is the biggest change, in the otherwise very Toyota GT 86 looking design. The twin-exhaust pipes sparked rumours about the BRZ being turbo charged, offered with an AWD platform; so far that’s has been internet chatter only. A short shifter 6-speed manual is available for those fancy some footwork and for the lazy legged a 6-speed automatic transmission with a ‘Sports’ ‘Manual’ mode is available, the latter runs a ‘throttle blipping’ system on downshifts. The front suspension employs struts while the rear has a double wishbone layout. The 215/45 R17 tyres are mounted on lightweight 17 multi-spoke alloy wheels. As with the GT 86, the Subaru BRZ is scheduled to go on sale in the UK in July 2012.
