Top 13 Best Selling Trucks In Canada November 2014 YTD

Pickup truck sales in Canada jumped 15% in November 2014, a gain of 3415 units compared with November 2013. 

 Full-size pickups accounted for 94.6% of all truck sales in Canada last month, up from 93.7% in November 2013 as their collective volume rose 16.4%.

Small/midsize pickups, a sub-segment which once again includes two GM nameplates, were up just 1% as sales of two continuing nameplates - Nissan Frontier and Honda Ridgeline - nosedived and the segment-leading Toyota Tacoma was level. 

 The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon combined for 16.1% market share in the category; 0.9% of all pickup truck sales.

 As always, the Ford F-Series was Canadas best-selling pickup truck, outselling the second-ranked Ram P/U range by 2419 units and the surging GM full-size twins by 1835 units. The twins, GMCs Sierra and the Chevrolet Silverado, combined to outsell the Ram by 3556 units through the first eleven months of 2014.

Top 15 Best Selling Luxury Vehicles In Canada November 2014

As usual, the BMW 3-Series was the best-selling premium brand automobile in Canada in November 2014. The Lexus RX led all premium brand SUVs and crossovers and outsold the Audi Q5 by a large enough extent that the RX now leads on year-to-date terms, as well.

Audi Q5 sales fell 25% to 515 units as Audi Canada generated a large percentage of their sales with the Q3. Combined, the Q5 and its new little sibling were up 28%. As of November, the RX was not yet challenged by its forthcoming little sibling, the NX.

 RX volume jumped 8% in November 2014, an improvement of 51 units. Other utility vehicles with notable November increases included the Mercedes-Benz GLK (up 52%), Mercedes-Benz M-Class (up 21%), BMW X3 (up 30%), Land Rover Range Rover Sport (up 29%), and the Audi Q7 (up 67%). 

The Q7 has been around since 2006 in in first-gen form. Audi released images of the new Q7 last week, but its important to note that as Audi prepares that second-gen Q7, the current model is enjoying its best Canadian sales ever. With one month remaining, the Q7 has already broken its one-year-old Canadian sales record of 1781 units. Canadian Q7 volume has improved five consecutive years.

For the purposes of the above list, premium brands include Acura, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volvo. Brands like Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Lotus dont report specific monthly sales data. Maserati only reports brand totals. Buick has been excluded with a bunch of other automakers that dont sell vehicles with base prices higher than $45K.

$50,000 CDN (before delivery) is an arbitrary borderline, but if GCBC was to follow this new system of designating only expensive vehicles as luxury vehicles, $50K seemed like a safe place to begin - it equals the average U.S. new car transaction price plus $15,000, plus another $5000 to account for Canadian increases. Plenty of less expensive vehicles with specific models feature prices above $50,000 - M, RS, and AMG models come to mind, specifically - but in the case of this list, we know that none of the registrations were of cars priced at $35,900, as would be the case with the BMW 320i, which costs less than a Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0T Limited. The biggest problem with a $50,000 minimum price of entry? Vehicles like the $49,990 Acura MDX and $49,299 Ford Expedition.
The new Cadillac CTS sedans base price is above $50,000, but not the base price for other cars in the CTS lineup. Yet. Total CTS sales in November: 72. Lexus recently bumped the RXs base price to $50,600.

Much of the strength in the U.S. utility vehicle market stems from growth in the number of available luxury nameplates and the expansion of the small two-row crossover segment.

In the former group, we have new products like Lexus NX, Lincoln MKC, Audi A3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA. In the latter, the Honda CR-V ended November as Americas best-selling non-pickup truck. 

 Thats not to say this larger, often-two-row type of vehicle is struggling, but its not the source of excitement among SUV sellers that the smaller segment is. 

 Then again, the Ford Explorer continues its march upwards. No three-row vehicle – no minivan, no crossover, no SUV - sells as often in the United States as the Explorer. Sales of the venerable Ford nameplate are up 9% this year and shot up 15% in November. 

The Toyota 4Runner still resides on the truck-based side of the SUV/crossover conundrum. The 4Runner has taken off in 2014, rising 53% in November and 48% through the first eleven months of the year.

GCBCs Most Popular Auto Sales Figures November 2014

The Honda Accords sales figures were the most commonly viewed numbers for a specific model on GoodCarBadCar.net in November 2014, a position the Accord has held many times over the last few years.

 Trailing the Accord was an Accord-related car, the Acura TLX. The TLX generates nearly 5000 U.S. sales in addition to the Accords 27,128 in October while ranking second in among premium brand cars in Canada.

In this post youll also find the most commonly read October 2014-related sales articles at GCBC over the last month and the most frequently viewed GCBC Driven reviews, as well. No review was read more often than our take on the new Subaru Outback. Readers check out the complete monthly U.S. brand-by-brand results more often than any other article.
